Our entire approach to test prep is guided by one question: What will you need to get where you are going? Whether you work with us one-on-one or through a class, we offer test prep services that actually deliver the prep you need. Great on math, but not on verbal? Need help on both? Anxious test-taker? Careless test-taker? Over the last few years we’ve seen it all and we’ll make sure we provide the sustained and focused attention necessary to put your student in the best possible position to succeed.
College admissions exams prove challenging because their standardized nature means there is a gap between the design of the test and what students do in their regular academic lives. Much of what students have to do on these tests looks nothing like what they would do in college courses on the same subjects. This insight has helped us design a strategy curriculum based on thousands of hours of one-on-one work; sitting across desks and tables from kids just like you, learning what works and what doesn’t. And we combine our strategies with ample practice opportunity on real exam materials made available by SAT and ACT.
All of our one-on-one students have the opportunity to work with two tutors, each of whom is devoted to a particular phases of the test. Each tutor will work with you through our strategy curriculum while getting to know you as a test-taker (also: as a fantastic person with a bright future). They will get to know your strengths and weaknesses, your test-taking habits, your greatest hopes and fears about the test and will be able to constantly refine your approach. By test day, you will know the exam inside and out.
Beginning in November, our Summit location will offer our take on prep courses. We will never ask you to sit through a 3 hour course covering stuff you don’t need. (It gives Brantley too many flashbacks to graduate school). Instead, we offer what we call our “Core-Four” Seminars that cover the four core strategies (see what we did there?) for each part of the test that every test-taker should know no matter her aptitude in a particular subject. Each course session lasts 1.5 hours and meets once a week over a four week period. Our courses are broken down by test component just like our private tutoring. This is a great option for students looking for a basic introduction to the tests, needing to refresh prior prep, or who want to supplement their private tutoring experience.
The week before each exam, we offer workshops covering drills for grammar, vocab, reading, math, and the essays. They are available for any student who wants to gain just that extra bit of test know-how and boost your confidence before the exam.
I got a 33 composite!!! I wanted to thank you so much for everything you have done for me regardless of the outcome, but especially now that we can see all of our time and hard work pay off for me today. You took me from a very confused and hopeless but dedicated worker with a 21, my first test with you, all the way to a top tier 33 score. I cannot thank you enough.Mounds Park Academy student
